New semesters bring new beginnings. Wednesday's chapel celebrated and acknowledged those starting a seminary journey as well as those beginning another leg on their trip toward God's call. God's word and good music punctuated Community Life Director Ayanna Johnson Watkins' great message.

Johnson Watkins reminded us that creating a better world begins by being a better you and me. And, she said, letting God work in us and guide us is even more important. Johnson Watkins said, sometimes, we're just too independent for out own good. "[We try to] fly the plane to the promised land by ourselves," she said.

However, letting God work in us doesn't mean He should do all the work. First-year MDiv student Richard McKinney helped us realize that we've got tools to do God's work, even if we wonder sometimes.

"We've only begun to know the power that is in us," McKinney said.

Prayer was an integral part of the service. Several stations allowed people to prayer in unique and innovative ways, including lighting candles, arranging SCRABBLE tiles and sculpting with clay. Clergy was also present to prayer with individuals.
