One of the biggest challenges facing medical education in Australia is the increased number of medical students. By 2012, Australia will (conservatively) graduate in excess of 3000 doctors; this represents an 81% increase in the number of graduating doctors from 2005. These students will need to be trained, but current demand exceeds the capacity of universities and hospitals. However, we are working towards solutions with stakeholders in medical education.
