This is very rare footage of a World War 1 LVG aircraft in the air.

  • Very nice footage, thank you !

  • Good ol' straight-six engines; my favorite. I thought it was a Mercedes engine, but I looked it up and it's a Benz Bz.IV (I'm assuming this was before it became M-B?). Interesting, it's a dual-cam, 4-valve/cyl engine, but is pushrod-actuated OHV rather than overhead-cam. I think that's a first for me! The Mercedes was DOHC, I think, but other than that they look similar. And the Merc has a bad rep for being unreliable (even for 1917!)

  • @TheFordPop Well, I don't mind them grounding the last real WWI fighter; it'd be a shame if something happened to it. But they really should have some accurate "continuation" versions in the air; as long as it looks, flys and sounds the same, I don't mind. But it'd be just to bad to loose an irreplaceable original.

  • a purpose-built killing machine that looks like a piece of beautiful furniture! I love seeing the replica Albatross D.III AT Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. That's another piece of killer furniture.

  • Kann jemand sagen wer die Maschiene gebaut hat?

Ich glaube es wurde von Focke Wulf gebaut oder?

    Ich hab wirklich kein plan.

  • Last airworthy WW1 German aircraft...now grounded as a static museum exhibit (where?). Saw its last flight at Old Warden. So sad if its languishing in a dusty workshop somewhere, aircraft need to fly.

  • This is just plain old fashioned COOL SHYTE, nothing less.

  • Doesn't get much cooler than that.

  • Beautiful cannon fodder.

  • THE definition of stick and rudder.

    awsome.
