Born in London, David Dawson began to dance at the age of 7 and received his early training at Rona Hart School of Dance, Arts Educational School and the Royal Ballet School where he was trained in dance and choreography. In 1991 he received the Alicia Markova Award, won the prestigious Prix de Lausanne and the same year he was offered a contract by the Birmingham Royal Ballet. Under the direction of Sir Peter Wright he was soon performing leading roles in all the classical repertoire as well as in ballets by Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Sir Frederick Ashton, Sir Peter Wright and David Bintley. He was nominated as Best Newcomer of the Season by Dance & Dancers magazine in 1992.

Richter trained in composition and piano at University of Edinburgh, the Royal Academy of Music, and with Luciano Berio in Florence. After finishing his studies, Richter co-founded the contemporary classical ensemble Piano Circus, with which he stayed for ten years, commissioning and performing works by Arvo Pärt, Brian Eno, Philip Glass, Julia Wolfe and Steve Reich. The ensemble was signed to Decca/Argo, producing five albums.

  • this is the kind of thing I've been dreaming about dancing

  • This is the highest rendition of the economy of motion in which nothing is wasted and nothing is predictable. Gorgeously fluid and deeply lyrical.

  • Thanks. This music by Max Richter brings back a lot of memories. David Dawson does a great job with this choreography.Still, it could have been much better. A little more mystical wouldn't hurt. Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leon from the NDT would have done more justice to it, by far.
