the +3 stat bonus thing with attack styles was confirmed way back in RSC, accurate = +1 atk, agressive +3 str, defencive = +3 def, controlled = +1 to each

It's +3 to att/str/def not +2% It's been this way since the old classic days when it even told u how much it was boosted. It doesn't only apply with no weapons. Your att/str/def will still receive a +3 invisible boost if you're wielding a weapon. When using controlled attacks, it's +1 to each. These boosts do stack with other boosts. Any informed fansite or max hit calculator would support this claim.
