The Piccadilly Dance Orchestra - live at Cadogan Hall for their 20th Anniversary concert on 23rd October 2008. This is Irving Berlin's sublime song, written for Fred Astaire for the movie "Carefree" (1938). Our version is a tribute to Carroll Gibbons and the Savoy Hotel Orpheans, at their sophisticated best when they recorded this song in 1938 with Anne Lenner and George Melanchrino as vocalists. Carroll Gibbons' widow Joan was in the audience and became a special friend and valued supporter of the PDO until her death on 3rd October 2009. The vocalists here are Angie Mills and Michael Law. www.pdo.org.uk

  • This seems to be the Savoy Orpheans arrangement, which was on a magenta-label Columbia I think. Lovely tune.

  • Hi - yes, it's the same arrangement which Carroll Gibbons uses on his Savoy Orpheans recording of 1938. Thanks for listening!

  • Intoxicating music.

  • What an incredibly romantic song! :D This is really sweet!

  • This is a great version of this song - and almost an exact reproduction of the Carroll Gibbons version. Fantastic.
