The reason she was moving her head up is because that's where she wanted her head to be. I am pretty sure if you move her from one position that she has been in for several hours, to another position it is extremely painful on the brain. She was moving her head up to reduce the pressure.

Like, even though your brain is hosed, there's still hope. Studies have shown that we only use a fraction of our brains. Right now, your brain is re-programming around the small part that's actually hosed. Don't ever give up. Ultimately, you will triumph over your adversity and functionally, you won't be hosed.
