This video is an "Online Klezmer Fiddle Lesson"! Some intiial tips to distinguish Klezmer fiddle playing from regular fiddle playing, the "Ahava Raba" Klezmer scale...& the story of my psychedelic BEAST of a Fiddle!
Klezmer was the tradtional Jewish wedding music of the Eastern European Shtetls - "Klezmer" refers to the musicans who played the music, as this old Yiddish term literally means "Vessels of Song"...
My album, "The Klezmer Fiddle", is now available from iTunes & Amazon MP3 Store - which features both my demonic beast of a fiddle featured in this video, and my 257 year old Baroque fiddle, made by Remerus Liessem, in London, in 1753!

Love your videos Michael - and that fiddle - I never knew Ken could do such things. The mic clipping distortion distracts from your excellent and entertaining advice, so more vids please but check those levels!

I want to play klezmer fiddle soooo much, but I'm just starting out on violin (probably self-taught until I can afford lessons), and these scales are hard! This must be difficult for young Jewish beginners to start on! I have those ever-present Mel Bay books that start you off on dixie and hot cross buns. Nice, safe major scales.
