In the Weekly Republican Address, Nebraska GOP Sen. Mike Johanns asks President Obama why his policies are hurting businesses, instead of creating jobs.

"You talk about creating jobs and that sounds good, but your policies just do the opposite -- with a fiercely anti-business tone," Sen. Johanns says.

He says small business owners "want to get up in the morning, head to work and find creative ways to build their businesses. And your policies, Mr. President, are hurting them."

Sen. Johanns points to several provisions in the health care law that will clearly hurt small businesses, like the 1099 filing requirements, the employer mandate, and the new Medicare tax.

"To put it simply," he says, "your actions thus far, Mr. President, don't encourage small businesses to hire employees. You're signaling to the business owners that they best be very cautious, not only because of the flurry of new taxes and regulations, but also because a national energy tax is next on your agenda. It's time to stop pushing anti-growth policies and start supporting a real job growth agenda."

  • this was a weak argument all around... hold on to that ONE study

  • @zokeman

because they all read the text in front of them. None of those words were written by them, but by someone else for them.

Pathetic, if you ask me... It's just that - "blah,blah,blah..."

All they know is how to accept kick-backs from Corporations and how to order escort services on the phone...

  • How to put people back to work: Stop manipulating the economy?

  • @richarddbeck Hey Richard - WAKE UP - Why don't we cut the pay of OVERPAID executives, and instead of shareholders giving them $100 Million per year, they take $50 Million per year and the other $50 Million is given to employees. What a novel idea - employees actually given a living wage !!

  • Ok,I try to be fair. I listened to this guy and I still didn't hear any solutions on jobs or the economy. Reps. where are YOUR solutions? Yeah we get it. You don't like the President's policies. Why should people vote for you? All I heard in the speech was complaints about something that won't even take place for another 3 years. People want jobs now! The Rep have a lot to say when it comes to blocking a bill..why it's no good. When was the last time we heard about a good bill from you guys?

  • @sallyshiers Are you kidding me?! You can't be serious! I'm not Rep. or Dem, but it is easy to see that after a year and a half the Rep and Conservatives have done nothing but play dirty against the President. Not only in politics (which would be fair game) they have talked about his religion, his family, his citizenship, compared him to Hitler and have even tried to block any bill he endorses, even if it was their idea! How can you honestly make a comment like that?

  • I'm a disgruntled republican. Cut entitlement programs or we'll stop voting. I'm 26 years old. I've voted every chance I've had. I'm a Republican who will only vote for tea part candidate. No more liberal republicans! Ron Paul is the only Republican that knows what he's talking about.

  • Thank for standing up for us in Washington, Senator Johanns!! What frustrates me the most is hearing our president making snide negative and derogatory remarks about Republicans. I thought a President was to be leader of everyone!!!! no matter what party they belong to. So we are now teaching our young people that it is acceptable to play dirty, disrespect your opponent, and degrade someone for practicing the freedoms that the US stand for? Unbelievable!!

  • @Jaimetud

I'm sure he would support the one policy that has time and time again proved a boon to job creation and businesses: tax cuts, both corporate and individual (since many small business owners file their company's income with their individual taxes.

  • It's time for the GOP, Teaparty'ers, Palinites, Beckers, etc. to tone down THEIR rhetoric. America is sick and tired of the hate speech and BS that's been coming from the right for almost two years.
