It's registration time again, and that usually means a LOT of angst over closed courses. I can hear you now. . ."why is this course closed when there are available seats?!" And "how to I force add--there must be a way?" And "Why does the universe hate me?!" So, here's the run down on what you might see on eServices and what to do about if you do.

If eServices tells you that there is a "Major Restriction," you need to contact the department and find out if you satisfy the restriction they've imposed. If the class is simply full, (There will be no box for you to check to add the class) you have two options:

The first is to log onto eServices at periodic times throughout the day between now and the beginning of the semester and try your luck at finding that someone has just gotten out of the class. There is a great deal of time between now and the beginning of next semester and there will be plenty of movement in classes "across the board."

The last resort is to show up on the first day of class and acquire an override from the instructor. I suggest this as your last resort because instructors won't usually give these out prior to the first week of classes (we're again dealing with that "long time between now and the beginning of the semester" discussion).

On the topic of closed courses with available seats--don't forget that VCU cross-lists a great number of multi-disciplinary courses. Check out the explanation of Cross Listed courses on the following page:
