Merveilleuse chanteuse douce et discrète. Elle est restée dans l'ombre et n'a pas fait de grande carrière internationale alors qu'elle avait une voix magnifique et une sensibilité à fleur de peau qui faisaient d'elle une interprète incomparable des chansons de Jean Ferrat et Jacques Brel, mais aussi de tant d'autres compositeurs. Merci Isabelle et séchez vos larmes. Si votre grand ami est parti il y a quelques jours, vous le retrouverez j'en suis sûre.

Very interesting observations from all of you, and I concur. Gerald77100 put into words what I feel, that the pleasant music only makes the tragic lyrics even more profound and impacting. It's a beautiful but also smart song. It makes you think. Isabelle really should have won again with this.

I think the same would hold for RTE. I dont necessarily its a case of the BBC or RTE being to blame (if thats the way to describe it). If this song had been written in English it would have found difficulties in or from mainstream culture. I suggest it points to a stark difference between the Anglo & Franco phone worlds.

In complete contrast the BBC would never had allow (or even allow now) a song with such meaning. the BBC are the real reason the UK songs can suck

By the way, I dont know whether it interests you but this years French song in ESC reminds me so much of Isabelle & especially her performance of Un Premier Amour. I think it's great - the best from France for years. I hope it does really well. Bon chance a La France!
