THE SPRING OF A RENEWED ANTI-WAR MOVEMENT: The March on Washington DC, March 20, 2010

With the beautiful first day of Spring, 2010, despite draconian attempts by the Establishment to obstruct not only this but similar marches on the West Coast by arresting individuals for the simple act of putting up flyers, demanding huge bails and threatening fines in the tens of thousands of dollars, comes a renewed and energized, multi-layered peace movement that sees the intimate connection between all of America's social, economic and even spiritual woes and the toxic effects of America's imperialist wars, occupations and alliances with reactionary forces globally. That folks are also over their mystical enthrallment with the Obama brand of the Warfare State was quite apparent in speech after speech during the Noon rally, and afterward during the march.

Thousands marched in Washington Saturday, March 20 after a Noon anti-war rally at Lafayette Park, with some of the protesters carrying symbolic, draped coffins that were dropped off at five locales, the offices of Halliburton, the Washington Post, the Mortgage Bankers Association, The National Endowment for Democracy and the US Department of Veterans Affairs. The event was hosted by ANSWER (Stop War and End Racism) and attracted a wide array of groups and organizations opposed to both George Bush's and the Obama Administration' continuing foreign policies of seemingly endless warfare and occupation, policies that are devasting both America and the planet.

I was arrested twice during mayday demonstations in 1970. We overran the city .

I marched in the winter of 2002-2003. I estimate 350,000-500,000 were marching in Washington. We were packed together so tight from sidewalk to sidewalk it was almost scary. Like the queue leaving a theater at the end of a movie.The march filled the entire route from beginning to end for a long time while it was going on. There is nothing like a good peace march!

We need an official Dept. of Peace.

This was like starting from scratch it felt like, but I think momentum is going to build this time. These wars are sucking the life out of the planet and all for paranoia and cycles of vengeance.

Thank you, MosquitoMac, for posting this. However, I think that the time for "permitted" marches during the weekend is over with. What we actually need is a sit-down strike during the weekDAYS in Washington. We also need to be present at any event where there also happen to be a lot of people and a lot of media. Example: Mardi Gras. Example: Times Square New Year's Eve. You see what I'm getting at? I tried to tell this to ANSWER but I got no reply.

One really need's think about how long the people been asking for PEACE! War is hate! War is genocide! War is brought with greed! They take one's life for what they want? The government can have their peace (piece)? Yet, we as people only get scraps from the government's table? (as I see it). The ways of the eugenics must come to an end! For their love is HATE! Their ways are greedful! They have no respect for you or me!? They only value that they have is WAR (HATE)! That is not of god like!

But for the rest of us, devoting weekdays would mean losing jobs homes lives..

Seeing continued protest against war around the world fills me with great hope. We have to keep the pressure on, by all means necessary we must articulate the possibility of peace. Thanks for caring enough to march - street level protest will always be relevant.
