wow that is a huge kid to be on a leash. Toddlers may not remember the humiliation but that kids is going to need therapy. Every dog that walks by on a leash is like looking in the mirror for that kid. Thanks for sharing this topic.

Sometimes people with disabilities like Autism, get spooked like animals and simply take off running, until they exhaust themselves, or run into something. They are sometimes harnessed to caregivers or service dogs.

My son loved having a leash around to his wrist more than having to hold my hands on street.
This would allow his to carry his toys by himself and we would always play, we would run together and he would stop suddenly, so I had to stop too, he would think that he had enough strength to make me stop too whenever he wanted. Even now (6y/o), he asks me for his leash, I guess I lost it.

My brother has a harness for my 3 yr old niece and I refuse to use it because it embarrasses me. I feel like I might as well be wearing a sign to tell people how lazy and incompetent I am that I can't keep this kid alive without lashing her to me.

I used the damned leash with my boys but i held their hands too. the fucking things should be used as an extra procation when they are like 2 and 3 and MAYBE as old as 4 or 5 but by the time they hit about 5 or 6 they should know better. Hell my 2 yr old daughter picked up on not running into the street by example from her brothers so i dont have to use one with her but will i if i need to...YES

I used to babysit a girl (about 9 years old) with downs. She was way bigger than me at the time (I was 11). I could have used something, because she was dragging me down the street at times she was so strong and wanted to run down middle of street. So I can see something to help a child with downs in this case.
poor kid...
