For the last couple month's I've been experimenting with aquaponics; a combination of hydroponics, and aquaculture in which a natural symbiosis is created between plants and fish to grow produce, and fish for food in one clean, compact, and contained environment.

I recently added two new grow beds, about 30 bluegill fish, and numerous plants seedlings to the system and it's all working extremely well.

You can do it too! Check out:

  • I've never heard of this before. Though I wonder, why this instead of just, well, planting it regularly? It seems to be an awful lot of work as opposed to just planting it in the soil.

  • @floppydisk909 You don't need fertilizers or insecticides, there's no interaction with pollutants in the environment, you can grow year round, you use outrageously less water (since it is recycled), grow more with less space, and you can grow fish as well. Once it's setup there's very little work to keep it going. :)

  • what are the plants in... it looks like some kind of red berry

  • @TeamPerilous It's called hydroton, they're expanded clay balls, very lightweight and super absorbent of water.

  • maybe you should use some real soil, that would make you project greener :)

  • @bluffatpk Soil would clog the system. 3/4inch gravel works better. :)
