Omar Lye-Fook (born October 14, 1968 in London), also known as Omar, is an internationally acclaimed British soul singer, songwriter and musician. Born to a Chinese-Jamaican father (session drummer & founder of Kongo Records) and Indian-jamaican mother, he grew up in Canterbury, Kent.
Designated by many as the father of British Nu-Soul, singer/songwriter/producer Omar began as one of the U.K.'s most promising R&B hopefuls with his early-'90s international hit "There's Nothing Like This." However, unintentionally avoiding pop stardom, he chose never to compromise his artistic credibility.

Over the past 13 years he's been cited as a major influence by the likes of D'Angelo, Maxwell, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, India Arie and Stevie Wonder.

  • Thats my man right there, Omar is so underated its a disgrace, we have producer talent like this in the UK and we have to listen to sh*t churned out by Simon Cowell. I know its a different decade but it makes me sad that we ignore raw homegrown talent. Back in the day we also had Don-e and Mica Paris who worked with Omar on 'Should've Known Better' another underated master piece. Omar i have the utmost respect for u as a UK artist. Keep doing it your way!!

  • @DollyMat

    Word!

  • @dankphish24 Omar was out there first tho ....lol

  • my original impression was from the theme song from lenny henry's show, CHEF!

for years i loved that theme song and searched for it, but OMAR was the only name i had. he has some good stuff, unique indeed, but some of his stuff reminds me of jamiroquai.

  • Always loved this tune...uplifting and soulful, 2nd favorite after There's Nothing Like This. Omar's has always sung in such an effortless way, def enjoy the vibes.

Agree with rogerhoward555 - Omar's Music album surprised a lot of people and was very popular for a long time..good to know he's stil performing.

  • GREAT!

  • @jazzique2 This song is from Omar's 2nd album release"Music".(same title as song track.)

I would consider the Music album to be the best Album(so far) that Omar ever recorded.

There is true musicianship on this album that is equal in arragements to the classic period of music soul from the 1970's.

Listen to this album, and you'll understand what I mean.

  • Not only is this single Incredible, but also in my opinion it is taken from the GREATEST EVER ALBUM BY A BLACK BRITISH SOUL ARTIST.

Omar 'Music' his second album release is full of Musicianship and Originality you just don't hear any more.

Omar's 2nd album 'Music' surprised many people.

    Just listen to those strings.

This harks back to an earlier period of soul late 1960's and early -to mid 1970's of that period.

    OMAR IS UNIQUE .

    A TRUE INNOVATOR.
