Tucson celebrated its 20th All Soul's Procession on Nov.9, 2009, Sunday. We met at 4th Avenue and University Blvd. at 4 p.m., registered floats and the rest of us just photographed each other. It is a fairly spontaneous, individually motivated gathering. We honor our dead and burn our sorrows in a huge cauldron at the end of the long walk down 4th and into the downtown area. We end in a large lot where a stage is set up for those who want to be seen up high and in star form. Some groups dance and sing.
to learn about next year's procession and then come participate. Everyone is welcome.
***** And most importantly, please DONATE to the cause as this is key to continued procession making.
Children have a procession the day before, though many children came this night. Dogs and babies, and young and old people in wheelchairs and you should come, too.
I spoke to a few foreign tourists who had come specifically to watch it and who will come next year and actually participate in it.
We all photographed each other to distraction. Which, is why, I have made this into two parts............my sister took 500 and some photos.
Real photographers were there having a heyday. We amateurs could not help but get ten fabulous shots out of one hundred, knowing nothing about photography.

I should say that if anyone is interested in learning more about All Souls Procession, the Tucson Chamber of Commerce is not the party to contact, but Many Mouths One Stomach, the non-profit grassroots organization that produces the All Souls Procession Weekend.
You can enter all souls procession or many mouths one stomach on a search engine to reach the websites where you can learn more about the All Souls Procession Weekend and how to donate.
A very few people wear Halloween like things, but most go with the Day of the Dead Souls theme and wear their favorite and beautiful things with skull faces, or sugar skull faces. Wonderful variety.
