Me making melonpan (melon bread), I made this video for my speech. For anyone that just happens to stumble upon it: the first part of the video is just black, if you want to watch me making melonpan jump about 40 seconds into the video. if you'd like to make melonpan here's a link to the recipe I used in the video
http://www.lerman.biz/asagao/melonpan.html
this second link is where the filling recipe came from:

Note: One thing that is important to note that isn't really in the recipe or video, is the amount of flour needed. You need to add quite a bit more flour then the recipe calls for, so that it's of a consistency you can knead. Just add enough so that it's a nice soft elastic dough.

  • would it taste the same if you didnt have any dry yeast?,or is there something you can subsitute instead?

  • @xXWolffangxXx You need the yeast for the dough to rise... and you just end up with a lump of hard bread, not very tasty. I have never tried using a substitute for yeast before. But from googling it apparently you can get a substitute by mixing together baking soda and lemon juice, but I'm not too sure how much or in what proportions nor how well this would work.

  • How long should I wait for the yeast to rise?

  • @MrMohamedMan When initially preparing the yeast you let it sit for around 10 minutes. After you've added it to the bread you let the bread rise for about 2 hours, if you're in a hurry though it probably would be fine after only an hour. That varies though based on how warm the room the room is. If it's not warm enough it won't rise at all, so that's the most important thing.

  • thankyou! I have been looking for a good recipe for quite some time ^^ Can't wait to make this! Have a question though, you fill some of them up and than put them in the oven, is that right?

  • @riechanster Yes that is right, I usually fill most of them with cream cheese and leave a few empty since my younger sister doesn't like cream cheese. And it's still yummy without filling as well. ^^
