Islam: A Great Religion?

On the 9th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, I discuss the often heard claims that Islam is a great religion. Is it great, or is it scary?

It just shows how religious ideology distorts reality by manipulating the mind. These traits are common throughout all religions. The same arguments Muslims use to abstract certain fundamentals away are the same used by Christians and Jews. God says kill women and children. You were just reading out of context. Allah says to wage war with the unbeliever. We're just not seeing the full picture. God's ways are higher than our ways, and so forth.

@anzwertree If I can convince you that God is speaking through me, then you don't ever have to question what I say. I tell you what to do, and you do it. You feel relieved of responsibility, and I have my very own robot. Everybody wins!

Abrahamic monotheism, Is religious totalitarianism, mainstream muslims believe that their God's authority supersedes all other authority, Thus they could never respect any authority but Allah.

Islam, If your a non-muslim You don't want to live under a Islamic state, It should be obvious, That their hypersensitivity makes inter-religious violence on the slightest provocation as inevitable, Thats why their was so much violent resistance against the Turks in the Balkans 200 years ago.

@Obasiliasfilosofos Agreed. I think monotheism may have been one of the bloodiest ideas anyone has ever had. Islam is the most extreme example of that.

I'm a Christian, and if someone in, for example, Iran, decided to burn 200 Bibles, I'd probably shrug mys shoulders and say to myself "Well, you always get your lunatic fringe" I'd find it a bit sad, but I can't say I would take it all that personally. I find it hard to understand what all the fuss is about, to be quite honest.

@ExLuedenscheider Muslims do burn Bibles -- quite regularly, actually. They burn idols -- including crosses and Catholic saints -- and sometimes they burn a Christian or two. Actually they don't. They shoot or stone them... They really are trying for forced conversion of the world. Craziness.

Christianity was "de-fanged" thanks to secularism and education, as well as anti-clericalism, Thats also why Judaism and Christianity are fading since only highly sheltered closed off minds can block faith damaging information coming through.

For as long as the quran is held as a infallible book sent down from heaven, Islam will never be able to truly reform itself,Its nothing but a tool control people.

@Catch22here I'm not so sure about burning books either -- but I do see a difference in some kinds of book burnings. When books are burned because the powerful are trying to prevent the less powerful from gaining access to the information in those books, it's inexcusable. But when a commoner burns books out of protest, that's just a form of speech. It's essentially a statement, "This is how much this book offends me!"

The ethnic cleansing and brutal carnage in Yugoslavia was born out of Serbian fears of being enslaved under the yoke of Muslims again, Bosniaks and Serbs are the same people,Same race and same language divided by religion much like India and Pakistan.

Christianity was a violent,mysogynistic, opressive faith and so is Judaism, The difference is that the bible is viewed as a "inspired" book authored by men, Where as the quran is viewed as the perfect unchanging book authored by god himself.
