  • I wish people would keep their venomous thoughts in their mouth! If you have not educated yourself on a subject you should not pronounce your opinion on it, or denounce someone elses stance. I only have skunks, so I can only slightly comprehend, but if one more person says something idiotic like "Whats wrong with just a regular dog?" Or "Cant you get a normal pet?" Or "Skunks are meant to be wild animals, you shouldnt keep them as pets it isnt nice." Im going to lose it !

  • @LoveChae Skunks are ace pets. Clean, intelligent, funny, sociable, not much trouble as long as you pay them attention and give them lots of love, and they are generally a barrel of laughs! You have to keep a close eye on your socks, of course (and make sure not to stand on them or surprise them too much, but that's true of any pet ;-) ). Oh and they are super cuddly!

  • UNBELIEVABLE. Alex Pearce (sarsar1090) posts a whole load of agressive stuff on my facebook page, accuses me of censorship, I reply at length, and he deletes all the posts! Nerve...!

  • @jackandmila and he's deleted his posts here too...

  • love the meerkats <3

  • @jackandmila With meerkats and skunks you have to childproof cupboards with anything dangerous in it, keep the loo seat closed, and make sure they can't get behind the fridge. Something well worth knowing about in advance.

  • @jackandmila Not everyone can cope with life with meerkats, though, and I like to make sure they are well and truly warned of the downsides, which is enough to put most people off. You have to look out for absolutely everything to keep them safe. When you have a toddler, the fact that they might fall down the stairs means you have to get a stair gate.

  • There are so, so many unfortunate rabbits and guinea-pigs and hamsters stuck in little cages who never get out, get no stimulation, boring food, no space to behave normallly, and are quite quite desperate. Go find those people and bother them. I give half my life to making sure my animals are really happy and well looked after and don't freak out if, as a result, some of my stuff gets wrecked or I occasionally get bitten I'm cool with it because it's their natural behaviour.

  • My animals are happy and very healthy as is quite clear, and it's no different keeping an exotic to keeping any other pet - as long as you understand their needs, put them first, keep them healthy and safe what's the difference between keeping a meerkat and a dog? Both pack animals, both require careful handling, the right food, the right love, care and excercise - the main difference is that meerkats are super-bright and need an awful lot of interaction and social outlet. Which mine get.
