This is from one of the classes I taught to show some basic techniques in Watercolor. Watercolor of a paper bag, using the techniques of adding washes to build up color, and lifting out and scrubbing out for definition.
I remember a class where we had to paint a pile of crumpled paper bags using only white and black oils. I don't think I ever scrutinized a subject quite as much , searching for all those shadows. Ha ha!

How do you "lift out" and "rub out" for definition? Can you describe what you do? Diluting with water? Erasing with a special eraser? Something else?
(Yeah, yeah, I always want to know the technical stuff of how it works.)
