This is a video of photos and videos from the last day of the Locomotive hauled services from Frankston to Stony Point. This is sort of a tribute to the A-Class and MTH carriage services.
Video inclues A60.
Music: Don't You, by Simple Minds.
Just thought it fits the occasion.
Enjoy part 2!

  • do a classes still run?

  • Yes

  • by the way, i never understoof why these caraiges have smoek comming out of the roof?

  • Quoted from V/linecars:

For power, MTH carriages rely on their own Dunlite 35kVA Diesel Alternator unit which powers the lighting, air conditioning, heating and Metcard machine & validators. There is no HEP installation, nor is one required, as they provide their own power and are only hauled by A Class locos.

  • In a further answer, HEP is Head End Power. N-class and P-class Locomotives have their own HEP, so they don't have to use a power van to power the elctricity in Carriges. A-class locomotives are ex B-class locos, so they don't have HEP, hence they need to have a power van on carriage sets. MTH cars don't have HEP, but they have a Diesel Alternator unit. So you could say that MTH is part carriage, part power van. =D

  • and the MTH carrigee seats were very comfortable too, farewell A class and MTH seat :'(

  • Yes, I think so.

  • ah okay thanks. whats the 'HEP? also when u say this is what all powers the carraige, is the carrage powered by a petrol motor to generate electricity hence what makes the smoke?

  • oh well. i will miss it but still, 30 years ago or so they were using railmotors there not loco hauld trains.. still miss it though

  • Indeed it will. We won't forget it! =D
