Well here is a new story I'm trying out(: Enjoy.
-
The cool night air brushed against 47-year old Nicholas Jonas's face as he stepped out onto his big white porch. Stars twinkled above him as his faded brown eyes stared up towards them in amazement. There was not a single cloud in the sky; only little specks of twinkling lights. A slight breeze blew, making the trees that surrounded the big back yard flow along rhythmically. Nicholas closed his eyes and inhaled the night air. Freshly cut grass, tree bark, newly blossomed daisies, clean and fresh air, all filled his lungs instantly. He gently let his eyelids flutter open as he peered out at his back yard. The old swingset sat in the corner, not being touched for over 5 years. In the opposite corner, the little pond sat still, unmoving. The lights from the house reflected off the surface of the pond, making it glow and standout against all the other objects in the backyard. There were once fish that roamed those waters, but have been long gone for quite some time. Nicholas walked over to the porch swing and sat down, which was more comfortable to his back than standing. The swing squeaked everytime he rocked back and forth and he was surprised it hadn't snapped off yet after all this time. Sighing,Nicholas ran a hand through his thinning curls, that were adding touches of grey as the years passed by, as the book in his hand felt heavier. He looked down at the book. It was a red velvet color and was frayed at the edges. Papers reached out making it look messy and overused, almost as much as the Bible that Nicholas owned. The book had gold corners that were worn out and didn't shine anymore, due to the time that had passed since it was newly made. The pages were obviously off-white and didn't have that new factor it once did. Nicholas let out a short breath as his eyes left the book in his hands and back out at the backyard.

Nicholas loved nights like these. They were so peaceful and it was a nice calming break. He had grown up and lived most his life in Virginia and didn't plan on leaving for a very long time. He lived here and worked as one of the best photographers in the state. His studio was only 4 minutes away from where he lived and worked a 9-5 shift. Families came in from all over the state for their family portraits. Pretty much every weekend a couple came in giddy to get wedding pictures. No matter who it was, Nicholas loved seeing those smiles on every single persons face. When they smiled, he smiled, knowing he'd accomplished something that day. When the kids came in, it was almost like a play date. He loved kids so much, he treated those kids like his own. He even had a candy bowl that he would fill every other day and pass out at the end of each of his photoshoots. After work, he'd come home to an empty house. He'd cook his own dinner, one of 5 meals he knew how to cook, and sit down to either read or watch TV. Occasionally Nicholas would turn the radio on, but only ended up lasting a minute or two, due to all the 'junk' on the radios nowadays, he referred to.

"Daddy?" A voice whispered at his side. Shaking his thoughts away, Nicholas turned and saw his daughter standing in the doorway.

"Hey baby girl." Nicholas's voice cracked at the sight of her.

Sienna was Nicholas's 22 year old daughter. Boy, wasn't she a sight for sore eyes. She was the most beautiful daughter any father could ask for, Nicholas always thought. Her light brown hair hung just above her shoulders and was trimmed neatly, tucked behind both her ears. Her lips were in a soft line and her sparkling hazel eyes were visible even with the distance between them. The milky tone of her skin glowed in the porch light and accented her high cheek bones. She was wearing a blue tank top with white shorts that came about mid thigh. She wore white flip flops on her small, petite feet. She had her arms crossed over her chest in almost an uncomfortable gesture. Nicholas turned his body and opened up his arms and softly said, "Come here angel."

Immediately Sienna went to her fathers side and embraced him, digging her head into his shoulder blade. Nicholas hugged her tightly as he stroked her hair softly. Soft sobs sounded from his daughter, making his eyes water slightly. To hear his daughter cry and in so much mental pain made his heart literally break. There was nothing he could do to fix her heart right now. After about ten minutes, Sienna pulled away and wiped her tear stained eyes. In the light, Nicholas then saw the true hurt in Sienna. Her eyes didn't sparkle with the life she had anymore. Faint, dark circle surrounded her eyes, and just around the rim of her eyes were red, puffy circles, from all the tears she had shed. It almost seemed like all the tears had left permanent tracks on her cheeks. Her hands were trembling and it was hard for her to calm down the sobs.

It was only three days ago that Sienna's husband of two years, and high school sweetheart, died in a car accident.
