@biddy10960 Hi biddy, i was an original smithy hater, i didnt miss a meeting when he was at his prime, absolutley hated him, in fact i used to wear a big badge on my coat whilst walking around the pits at every meeting, the badge said in great big letters "i hate smithy, But, he was the best, no doubt about it, when he retired it was the beginning of the end for me going too. And to hear of his passing made me feel so sad, could you send me this video with sound please biddy. thanks.

@lifeonthebeach ----- Smithy was so good even the people who hated him did not deny he was a cut above the rest. But that was stox of the 70s, he was a showman just entertaining the crowd. The fact was that he was most entertaining when he was burried in the fence and that added to the attraction! If you want the race on disc give me your email.

@princeofdaftness I was there when smithys car went through the fence in the world final,

down the back straight and into the 3rd bend, driver called glyn pursey ploughed into him, full throttle and buried him, I am not sure who won the race but i think it may have been mike close or willie harrison. could even have been dave mellor. what a race, what a night, what a venue. cant buy these days back, the best days of my life as a kid.

since Smithy's car went through the fence at bellle vue and almost wrote it of the year beforef, the winged thing was gone for ever, and the smooth car in this video was born, still with the aerofoil though, today all F1 stock cars have that shape, RIP Stu Smith snr, your legend will live on
