Parents should, of course, have input too but when we are talking about a whole classroom someone objective (like the teacher) needs to have greater input than, for instance, some government official who is more concerned about his or her re-election than the well being of our children.

I don't understand the reasoning behind giving more input to teachers. Shouldn't parents have the greatest input ?
I'm much in favor of school's not using graduating students as pawns by encouraging every student to pursue an academic degree.
