I will forever consider myself a student .. so I'm no expert.. but it has been my understanding that there is concern in some environment and under certain conditions that burying a fire could allow it to burn and travel underground. I thought this was why sean was so serious about checking underground?? I guess you guys or sean can speak to this for me but I believe sean's method of clearing camp has been the absolute best I've seen and what I will practice in the future.

my son likes to pee on it to make sure the fire out
Why didn´t you use some sand to stop the ash burning?!

@PattafixBob I did not use sand because I am in a woodland and there is not sand about. On the Mendips there is very little surface water.

Cheers for sharing. You'd never know you were there! I did the upside down fire with 3 of my kids when we were out last time and it worked a treat, kicking out high up from the start - great way to get warm quick. They had turkey legs hanging above the fire, adjusting the length of the cord via loops. Cracking set up and a definite must for anyone to try. Well done Sean
