@Muirmaiden completely agree. and i cried so much more in this version too... it seems more depressing :S

@eurasianGirl12 , agreed, and Eddie makes Angel seem more despicable in the post-confession scene. I think Redmayne, as good an actor as he is, was miscast in this. I didn't understand why Tess loved this Angel, where as in the 1998 version I could see why she wanted him to return to her. I actually liked Alec better in this version and Tess and Alec had better chemistry in this one.

This story is so terribly tragic to the point of being exasperating; the poor girl never gets a break. I love it.

If only Alec hadn't done that to Tess, maybe they would've ended up being a happy couple. I personally don't think Angel is a good fit for her. He is immature, confused, inconsiderate, and judgmental. Even though Alec is a jerk and also creepy, I think he would've given Tess a better, happier life.

i think angel was better in the 1998 version

I love how from part 2 to part 3 e've gone from "I love Angel" to "I hate Angel" :P He is such a hypocrite, so much so that it doesn't really make sense. It's as if Hardy was trying too hard to show how miserable Tess' life is, but how good she remains.
-
Angel claims to hate the arisocrat principal, but then he wanted Tess to return to her original name of Durberville, talk about snobbery and hypocricy of the utmost degree.
He was also envious of Alec i think, not just the immorality/rape incident but also his situation calling him a jumped up chocolate millionaire from bradford, yet at that point what offence had he given? He had taken an old name, that was taken before Tess even knew where she had originally come from.

48 hours of pleasurable banging hahahaha...and he dares to judge her??

I really can't stand Angel after this--he's supposed to be so idealistic and wonderful, and then he just dumps on all of that when he condemns Tess. Plus, Alec is hotter in this adaptation anyway.
