Stem cell research advocate and actor Michael J. Fox campaigns at the University of New Hampshire for former governor and Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate Jeanne Shaheen. Fox suffers from Parkinson's disease and has been a public supporter of embryonic stem cell research.

Adult stem cells can cure IPS but that doesn't mean they can do anything for PD. Though embryonic stem cells do have a risk of becoming tumorous, by their nature they have a lot more potential to treat more systems. One can argue(as many do, I'm sure) that if people would allow more opportunities to study and test embryonic stem cells, a way to solve the problem of tumors would be found already, while adult stem cells, though they have the genes, don't have the physical ability to treat as many.

Fox supports brain tumors, apparently. Don't his people tell him that embryonic for Parkinson's resulted in 100% subects w/brain tumors within 10 wks? That adult stem cells yielded 'functional recovery', or iPS treated animals were basically cured without tumors (and the latter 2 would be federally funded, more quickly to clinical trails - and insurance covered?) Once again Shaheen uses people's pain for political gain.
