The AV-8B Harrier II plus, is the last production variant of the Marine corps harrier jump jet. The plus differs from the ordinary AV-8B by the addition of infrared navigation, enhanced radar and upgraded cockpit technology. The AV-8B was an improvement of the BAE Harrier, known as the AV-8A to the marines, With a new composite wing uprated Rolls royce pegasus and other improvements, developed by McDonnell Douglas in the late 70's (BAE joined the development in the early 80's to co-manufacture the improved harrier for the RAF) Spain and italy are also operators.

  • Without a doubt, the loudest object I have ever been around. What a gas hawg! ;)

  • @TheSaturnV If you want to hear loud, go see a B-1B up close. Even idling the compressor whine was making my ears ache. At full afterburner on takeoff or fly by it sounds like the sky is ripping. By far the loudest jet I've ever heard however was the F-22 raptor, which was so loud, it was overwhelming my camcorders ability to process the sound, and causing it to freeze up.

  • @flyinDPOD I've never heard a B1-B or F-22. :(

  • @TheSaturnV Go to air shows! If there are any air force bases near you, It will certainly put one on every year. many airports have them. The best part of about air force base shows is they are free! (parking too!) Oshkosh is prohibitively expensive for me, but smaller shows, (like Rockford IL or Indianapolis Mt. Comfort) are more reasonable. Search online for lists of air shows. Even bigger than NASCAR, there are two or three air shows every weekend during the season. (March-November)

  • awesome plane and pilot :)

  • @flyinDPOD Yeah, you have to wonder about where some of the call signs originate from. A friend of mine flew F4's and then F14's. His call was "Loins", LOL.

  • @coolyo366 :D I least I got to see SOME kind of Harrier at Tinker. Great plane to watch.

  • @TheSaturnV They haven't flown it at the Tinker AFB show because this is a MARINE Harrier Demo. Thats an Air Force Base. Get what i'm saying lol

  • @flyinDPOD Oh I do. Tinker AFB puts on a great, free show every year. They just haven't flown either of those a/c on the years I've been. Thanks for the great vids.
