  • I never understood why someone would prefer a gas powered saw to an electric for carving unless there was no power hookup near by. You can actually hear the wood being chiseled w/the electric. They will both leave a slight oil residue and that's why I finish with a 4 inch sanding disk. If you view my other Tiki vid you will see a bigger gas saw used but that's all that was available at that site.

  • Amazing work man, do you sell your work often?

What do you use to coat the wood to prevent splitting?

    That is art!

  • Thanx WOZCINEMA Appreciate the good feedback! Yes I've sold Tikis and I build Tiki bars. There are all kinds of finishes you can put on your Tiki. I prefer oils and stains (old school) for outdoors. Just soak the heck out of it but the true beauty of the piece may not come around for years! Cracks are inevitable. Tikis usually look more authentic after aging a bit.

  • @JamesKruize what song/artist is that?

  • @4alarmer The song is called "South Sea Island by "Plank." A great surf band from Seattle. CD available through Little Mark Productions.

  • Great job man! That is a cool looking Tiki. I have rough cut several with my chainsaw, but they really are half ass.

  • @bj616 Try smoothing that rough cut using a 4" grinder w/sanding disk. It's fun to use and it will really take the wood down quick.

  • Very nice work :)

  • @JamesKruize...where do you sell your tikis? I'm coming to Maui in 3 days or so, and would love pick up one or two!!

  • I keep reading that you need a gas chain saw to do this kind of work. The electric does not seem to be holding you back. Would you advise getting an electric? I am pretty close to neighbors and am concerned about the smell and noise of a gas chainsaw. About to cut down two Washingtonias in my yard and should have enough wood for several small and at least two or three tall Tikis. I have made a tiki but it was hard wood with a chisel, man thats a lot of work.

  • @JamesKruize Sweet man, mahalo!

Do you rec a certain oil for palm tikis? I live in AZ so I gotta consider the extreme, evil heat!

Also, what's the best type of wook to make tikis and moais? I made on moai out of palm tree stump and it looks killer.

    Anyway mahalo!

  • very nice!!!

  • @JamesKruize Thanks man. I have to invest in one ASAP! Love those Tikis!!

  • thank you sir!
