Mummer's Parade on CBC's Here and Now

CBC's Here and Now was at the Mummers Festival. It's basically the same footage from the National, but this is higher quality.

It's the 2011 Mummers Parade! And the news cameras where in on the action. I am the mummer with the big white cat on my head, and I give a quick run down of the ugly stick!

Mummering has a long history in Newfoundland, I would go out mummering myself at home.

During Christmas, people dressed up in silly clothes and covered faces would visit people's homes and entertain the residents with dancing and music. After the residents guess everyone's identities, the mummers would be rewarded with treats, alcoholic beverages, and purity syrup.

In small communities like the one I am from, this was the closest thing to a pub-crawl you could get to since there are no bars.
