Each year during Commencement Missouri State University confers honorary doctorate degrees to men and women for their significant contributions to the community, state or region.
Last December, two honorary doctorates were bestowed to women who have made a direct impact on the Springfield community.
Jan Horton received the Doctor of Public Affairs for her lifelong work as a community volunteer, serving on more than forty boards and committees. And Patty Penny, founder of Penmac Personal Services, also received the Doctor of Public Affairs in recognition of her tireless efforts to offer GED classes to all people in the community and region, with the goal of creating a more educated workforce.
Tonight we are honored to have both Jan Horton and Patty Penny as our distinguished guests. And on the court to honor tonights honorees is Dr. Frank Einhellig, Dean of the Graduate College.
Ladies and gentlemen, please acknowledge the work of these two businesswomen and philanthropists. They are in the Bancorp South Academic Spotlight.
