I own a hv20. I've taken footage from it that rivals 16mm (I made a couple shorts on that format), and I've taken footage from hv20 that looks like crap. Don't know why. I light everything pretty much the same and use all the same settings. I get a different answer, it seems, every time I hit the record button.

the hv30 has manual zoom and focus and with the letus you have more focus control. i use a rode video mic with a 25' wire and a homemade boom pole the sound is great. filters can be bought. just remember the more stuff you have doesnt mean the better it will look. it all depends on who is behind the camera and in front of it. i have shot with other cameras that had all those features, they took away the mobility that the hv30 had

True, but with with the canon hv30 you loose the very important ability to have manual zoom, focus, xlr mic inputs, matte box, nd filters etc. The list goes on.

don't bother, just get a canon hv30 with the letus 35mini. it will do they ssame thing but half the price!
