Market expert for Goldsboro, North Carolina, Bruce Gates, is reporting good news for the area.

He says that with Seymour Johnson AFB driving the housing market, the area has not suffered like many other parts of the country.

Besides the new tanker squadron that is standing up, the base has received a mission to train some foreign student fighter pilots as well as its normal course load.

And while overall, the turn over of base personnel has slowed down some due to changes in how often military are moved from base to base, it still enough help keep the market fairly healthy compared to most.

In Bruce's opinion, changes on Seymour Johnson will continue to keep the market moving at a steady pace. Or At least until all of the families that will be displaced for the base housing renovations have found accommodations out in the civilian housing market.

Goldsboro is just a 45 to 50 minute drive to Raleigh and a very sizable number of people are opting to live down Goldsboro and northern Wayne County.

Housing costs are much lower than Wake County and the area surrounding Raleigh. And with new roads recently open -- commutes are significantly easier.

The area is also working long term to restore rail service between Wilmington, NC, Goldsboro and Raleigh. Once rail service is re-established it will truly be a bedroom community to Raleigh.
