The Y-Front is a 3D forward-scrolling shooter rendered completely in the Windows Command Prompt. It was created by The Eccentric Muffins as their freshman game project at Digipen Institute of Technology.

The Y-Front went on to win both Best Freshman Technology and Best Freshman Game at the 2010 Digipen Game Awards.

The Y-Front is programmed in the C programming language using the Windows API and the FMOD Sound System.

  • Incredible details, really! You had a lot of work with this. Everything potentiates when you have three dimensions.

  • Did you just run it in a really large prompt so that you could manage this kind of depth of detail?

  • @CecilSunkure It's programmed in C, compiled in Visual Studio 2008 for x86. It runs in the Windows Command Prompt; all the "pixels" are colored ASCII characters.

  • @dailyflossproduction yes it is ;) trust us, those "large pixels" are in fact ascii characters

  • this isn't ascii though, is it?

  • let me play.

  • I <3 this video

  • Alienbraham Lincoln?! My god!
