SFU have always had a beautiful, sweet, big, bright, brilliant sound. That has characterized their pipe sound since I've been listening to them (1986). Other bands have a more "bellicose" or "hard" sound, such as FMM or Strathclyde Police under Ian MacClellan, which is great; but SFU has always had the bright and beautiful sound that no other band has.
I love how you can make out someone say "Oh WOW" when they start in, as if she's totally shocked by the huge sound that she didn't suspect.
