The commercial was filmed in 1991 by the same people who put out THE BOOK OF THE SUBGENIUS in 1982. (MTV paid for the ad.) Nightflight used to run 10-minute clips from the SubGenius film ARISE! (then in progress), although they renamed the segments "Love that "Bob." Rev. Paul Reubens used a Dobbshead in the first season of Pee Wee's Playhouse. The 1st SubGenius pamphlet was published in 1980. A short film, "Bob's" Lunch Hour was made in '77 by Philo Drummond and Ivan Stang. Check wikipedia.
