"The first accurate timepiece was invented in 1790" ? Bullshit. The first "accurate" nautical timepiece was made in 1761. It was made by John Harrison born 1603; in Foulby, West Yorkshire, England. By trade a carpenter, by interest a self-taught clockmaker. His son sailed from Britain to Jamaica on HMS Deptford in 1761, along with the timepiece. On his arrival, it was 5 seconds slow (approx 1 nautical mile out). Your modern watch may be a bit more accurate, but was it made by a carpenter?

So actually finding out that our fantasies can't be true (disproving them, which scientists "like to do") shouldn't influence more "enlightened" people, who should ignore disproof and believe whatever they want to. It's really sad: the period of history when science began to be widely valued for finding out the reality of the world is called "The Enlightenment". Without it, we'd have no computers. This map has Antarctica without the ice. According to what we are taught in school this had to be hundreds of thousands of years ago. The answer to this mystery, whatever it is, would have to be amazing or very unsettling.
