A man finds a woman stranded in the middle of a parking lot who has locked her keys in her car. Fortunately, he happens to be... a locksmith.

This is a short I directed a few months ago, shot and edited by Kyle Kubler and Starring Kate Elliott and Caleb Griffin.

  • LOL I didn't see that one coming at all...very nice. Do you need a permit or something to film at places like that? how do you manage the lighting? Is it colour correction? I have so many questions...

  • (part 2)

we used only existing lighting (which is why the locksmith is so dark at first) we used color correction to bring out the natural light, because filming at night is so near impossible. this particular parking lot had a brighter light than most lots we scouted for. (we almost went to the mall that they shot Back to the Future in. it was sweet!)

are you making anything new these days?

  • To be honest, I haven't attempted to make anything new...I haven't been motivated lately. I constantly worry that I can't do what I want to do...or that it'll just not be entertaining. It's probably that most of the people I look forward to (not taking a shot at you) haven't made anything for a while too you know?

  • It's a tall order, isn't it? the idea that there is a responsibility that we have to consistently make new material that is entertaining.

I mean, there's no rule that says 'Thou shalt make one movie a week' or anything like that. for some reason this invention called the internet says that as soon as we pick up a camera we are entertainers, and that we must... what, gain fame? fortune? wisdom?

I dunno man. what do you think?

  • Hahahaha

    Nicely done. :)

  • I'm glad you've worked it out. some people go crazy trying to do be the funniest or weirdest or whatever, and that's actaully very dangerous.

personally, I don't like being in front of the camera. I'd much rather be behind. that's why I'm making a web series. I, personally, am not an entertainer, but i do love making people laugh.

I agree though. It should be fun. if it's more than just fun, it can become an obsession.

  • It is a tall order, but if that's someones drive to make vids weekly to get the fame, then good luck you know? I don't think it should be like that...it should just be fun man, it's not a competition. I don't know man...

  • I hear that a lot on YT...users wanting fame, fortune, be featured and get tons of subs...or feeling their videos suck. I started out like that you know? I felt like I could do that or do it better...but that quickly died off man. For me it has to just be a hobby now...if I'm inspired and motivated I'll put something up...other then that it won't matter to me anymore if people decide to leave my channel.

  • hey Mylo, good to see you again!

here's a tip: you don't need a permit as long as nobody knows you are filming there until you do, and then you get out as soon as possible before anyone decides to ask if we should have one. :) I've done so much filming without permits it isnt even funny...
