After a gruelling two week construction period installing the second half of the Mount Reef, the partially completed reef started to show its capabilities on Wednesday 4th October. A small 1.5 metre north-easterly swell generated awesome waves on the reef throughout the day producing fast hollow right hand barrels and up to 50 metre rides on both left and right hand breaks.
better than titahi bay on the best of days! buaahahahaha!!

looks like you are getting one. Well it may take some time because of weather conditions, and may not work but you are getting one.

I live in tauranga and have bodyboarded the reef since they first started building it. I and everybody i know thinks the reef is and has been nothing but i pile of crap. I agree with you roy.

Hey RaySteward once again check out my videos of some waves I saw on the 5th of September 2008 they are short and very round (square even). Heck there is even somebody riding some of them in the video so I guess they are rideable !!! That the only facts I know about!! When asked about it the guys I saw surfing the waves said that the reef had been more consistent since the work in May. Can't say that is true as I was told about it, but not sure why somebody would lie about this.

A nice act there but the facts are that the few short waves you saw are an extremely rare occurence and during most swells the rideable waves on the reef are non existent. Try ringing Eric Burggraaf another Mount local from way back, he'll tell you the truth. Or, try ringing Brent at the council, justa sk for Brent and say it's about the Mount Reef, he'll tell you the truth also. Brent was all for the reef in the beginning but now realises that it is a failure and wants it removed.

Warp public opinion? Jebers I just posted a few videos and keep replying to your rants. The waves I saw and posted were breaking very very angry manner. How angry , angry like an old man trying to return soup in a dinner. The wave next to the reef were good to but nothing like the slabs I witnessed.

The truth as I keep saying is that I went to the reef saw some waves that looked like heavy reef waves to me posted some video. That's about it , some guys that had been surfing said the reef was more consistent , just not sure if they were locals or even new what the were talking about (they sure could surf thought!)

You are an ASR troll, trying to warp public opinion away from the truth. Those waves aren't 'heavy' by the way and are no heavier, way shorter and many times less consistent than the natural banks produce.
The locals know it is a failure, and some of them are now campaigning to have the reef removed.
