@Kirilya I can't agree more. I've always owned TB's and they have the best work ethic of every horse I've ever met. My horse is 21, a TB, and he is still doing everything he was doing at 10 years old. I tried giving him the winter off and he's been going crazy. The second I start working him, he doesn't want to stop.

People need to realize that these animals are made for this. I have never met a tb that didn't want to work. They are athletes, and to be anything less often results in an unhappy horse. Thoroughbreds that aren't challenged enough will find other more destructive ways to express their energy and athleticism. It's in their blood. So I do not think a performance career is cruel, there being exceptions of course, like abuse. But if cared for well an athletic career is ideal for a Thoroughbred.

@pittheur I agree but this would have to be the law because otherwise people doing it that way would have a disadvantage.

I always felt that horse racing was rather crue: The poor things aren't even fully matured (racing at 2 years old!) and they're being made gallop 'round as fast as they can all the time. That just can't be good for their poor bones and organs, no matter how much selective breeding is done with Thoroughbreds. I wouldn't have as much of a problem with racing if we went about it more humanely...
My opinions aside, great documentary. I love this series.

@Replicaate Yes, just the fact that these animals are raised for a hobby is not fair for them.
And yes, this series are great.
