"P.F. Sloan" is the title of a song by singer-songwriter Jimmy Webb, who is better known for the 1960s hits "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" and "Up, Up and Away". Webb released two different versions of the catchy, bittersweet composition, which seems to be about the costs and disappointments of being a creative groundbreaker. Cover versions of this were recorded by The Association in 1971, Jennifer Warnes and by British band Unicorn in the early 1970s - released as a single and album track. Enjoy

  • When was this bootleg done? - Seems the intro last longer then the song!

Imagine Jackson B on a 70s-cocaine buzz.. that he would prob talk your head off! -One of my all-time favorite songmakers (just so you know I'm not really complaining). There's prob about half a dozen artists that are an endless fascination to me. He's one.

  • I was there when Jackson met Sloan at the 20th anniversary Earth Day celebration in Santa Barbara in 1990. Jackson's mouth dropped open and he went "oh wow".

  • Also covered by Larry Coryell when he was still a rocker (late 70s) , and Cassell Webb (late 80's). Two woefully unrecognized singer-songwriters. A brilliant song, but can't say much that Browne does much in service of this tune, at least in this rendition.

  • There is now another version of this, by Jackson and Jimmy Webb on Jimmy's new CD Just Across The River - great duets by Jimmy and various great artists

  • I love it! I've always been familiar with the version by The Association since circa 1970, Jackson Browne is no less talented with his rendition!

  • I recorded Jimmy Webb's PF Sloan off the radio in May of 1972, and it instantly became one of my all-time favorite songs. Shoulda been a huge hit, but....oh well.

  • He also wrote Secret Agent Man. There's a clip of him playing it on YouTube- on acoustic. Great guitar riff- presumably played by Johnny Rivers on the hit Johnny had.

  • P F Sloan- wrote The

  • Beautiful song! beautiful man!

  • Brilliant song , dodgy version..still glad it was posted ..but you must check out the original by Jimmy Webb it is haunting !! clever and humourous !!!So PFS wrote eve of destruction another song that captures a cry by a generation.....
