All high performance engine blocks are made from billet blocks. this because casting limits the strength of the material and increases enclosures of slacks in the material, thus weakening the block.

It could probabley run to £150,000 to 300,000. Plus maintinance on it plus tips on this job it could easily cost several thousand for one.

Awesome machine, awesome program, awesome tools, BUT... why? it is an impressive demonstration on CNC and tools, but it's a lack of technological common sense, why not cast it in a close enough shape and CNC only the functional surfaces? (or CNC all of it to make it look shiny like here at way less wear and tear on tools and less waste of metal)

I think its a type of keying, as far as I know the roughen up the inside surface of the cylinder to help trap oil in the tiny grooves to lubricate the piston and stop it from ceasing. If any knows any better feel free to correct me but I think that's what it is.
