The film "Red Tide and You" recently won Best in Show at the Art of Red Tide Science exhibit at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida.
The exhibit, which wrapped up on April 26, featured 14 art and outreach projects created by students from Ringling College of Art and Design as part of the Ecology of Water course taught by Mote scientists. The students created videos, clothing, a puppet show, a video game and other outreach projects to communicate red tide research information to the general public.
The winning project was created by Ringling students Rebecca Parham, Brittany Godwin, Christine Kim and Autumn Fritsch. Their old-fashioned film — complete with '50s-style bathing suits and well coiffed hair — used humor to help describe how red tide can affect Florida's beaches, sea life and people.
Great job to the Ringling students and the ed consultants. Adorable flick!
