I worked for some top notch architectural offices in Calgary none of them had anything close to a workable CAD standards or a knowledgably CAD manager. I was a CAD manager for a leading company of 250 staff in Dubai and I a very well experienced Autodesk Architecture & Revit user with implementation and programming experience and I am on EI because executives in Architectural offices dont have present day hiring capabilities and they depend heavily on the receptionist to screen resume.
Lets go back to 2004 when many companies were looking for ADT users. I have extensive ADT experience including customization and implementation capabilities yet companies in Canada over looked my resume. In the office that I did work I hosted lunch and learn to promote ADT. Unfortunately the CAD manager at the office has not developed a full understanding of the plain old vanilla AutoCAD so the office was not interested in ADT.
You will be surprised as to how many AutoCAD users do actually know how to use the software, much office dont even use xref or create blocks with attributes. They dont even have proper CAD procedures or CAD standards. Its not just some small office it the big office too. Most of the users only know how to draw circle and lines. Just recently I showed the CAD manager in a leading Saskatoon architectural office how to create a dimension style and many simple basic techniques.
Revit is going no where in Canada unless and until executives in Architectural offices learn to hire people based on skills and experience and over come their silly discrimination games and please dont use the receptionist to screen resume. A lot of skill full Revit users are driving taxies in North America while red necks sit in front of computers talking trash.
I would be curious to see how people feel now about Revit and B.I.M. technology. Nor-Son, Inc. and I have been leading the way on B.I.M. technology over the past 4 years and it didn't come easy. The technology has to touch nearly every part of your business to be truly a B.I.M. environment and if people are involved things take time.
Have you guys taken the leap into the world of B.I.M.? If so how are you doing?
the only difference I see with it is that you can do more 3D animation and walkthroughs..and your right about Revit having a future..that's why I'm trying to learn it now...that's an automatic hire if you know it.

Rather interesting, but, honestly, more about the designer would of been nicer, ie work and such :)
