This record epitomizes Chicago Soul from the mid 60's. Not much was known about Barbara Green, or this record until recently, when she contacted me thru You Tube. Barbara was 13! when she recorded this song in 1964 for Vee-Jay records. Production was by Richard Parker, and backing vocals by the Dells. Released in Sept. of that year, 'Young Boy' became a huge hit in Chicago and the Midwest. In 1968, it was re-released on Renee records and it charted #50 R&B, and #86 Pop. Barbara is now a Special Education teacher in Milwaukee, as well as holding degrees in the Arts, Voice and Theatre. So young when she recorded this, I don't believe she has an idea how special a record she made. This is simply superb Chicago Soul.

  • Thank you for posting this great 60's song! did Barbara record an album? If so,where can it be purchased?

You are doing a great service by posting these timeless recordings on YOU TUBE!

  • How can one get this song (young boy) in an ITunes library ? It is hauntingly - beautiful, and it makes me think about those days when love was new. Truly this is one of the all- time best. Thanks for the memories Barbara.

  • Hi Barb.I just want to let you know that your singing has brought a lot more joy to a lot more people than you can imagine.I still have your records, and treasure them.Though we lived not so far apart in '64,I didn't see you at any of your appearances.I can't remember seeing you on Jim Lounsberry's show, or what you said about being on TV in your interview with my friend Bob Abrahamian on his radio program.I was 16 then & thought you were an adult in your 20s.Glad to know you've had a good life.

  • Glad to see Barbara getting notice from younger people."Young Boy" is one of my top 10 all time favourite songs, and I've probably listened to over a million in my lifetime.I lived in South Chicago in 1964,and listened to WVON,and when I heard that song,I ran out and bought it right away.I was shocked to find out in an interview of her this year that she was only 13 at the time.I bought "A Lover's Plea" too, and "Long Tall Sally" on ATCO also. But I was devastated that she had no more releases.

  • Hello Ms. Green. I was all of 4 years-old when you cut this song & I had no idea that you were as young as you were. Your voice was so mature, yet sweet in that innocent Chi-Town sound given us back then by ladies such as yourself, Denise Chandler, Candace Love, Diane Cunningham, JoAnn Garrett & of course, Minnie Riperton.

Thanks for giving us some fond memories of days that felt so much less complicated than these, before I learned far more than I ever wanted to know. May God bless you.
