  • There wasn't a rematch clause cos Bowe fought two bums imbetween the Holyfield fights. He beat Holy by a wide margin (117-110 x 2, and 115-112) and thought he might win again- unlike agsint Lennox Lewis who stopped Bowe in 2 rounds(1988) and Razor Ruddock in 2.

Your sooooo wrong if you think that the ACTUAL reason Bowe v Lewis didn't happen was money, that was the reason Bowe and Newman tried to engineer, but it was a front for the real reason, and they were prepared to lose the WBC belt for it

  • @opera123able Incorrect, Holyfield gave Bowe a tough fight and they wanted to fight Holyfield because rematches between American champion fighters are highly lucrative and there might have been a rematch clause. I do think that dumping the WBC belt was an attempt to make the WBC look bad, that's the whole point. It's not because of what you're suggesting about them not wanting to fight because of personal reasons. It's about the money as usual.

  • @capablemachine

..Its not always a fixed date, and they can be flexibility if they want.

Lewis unified the 3 belts in 1999 & was set fight WBC mandatory Michael Grant first. The IBF agreed to sanction it and delay their own mandatory (David Tua), but the WBA played silly buggers and threatened to strip Lewis if he didn't fight their guy 1st. Lewis fought hard in the courts to keep the WBA belt (unlike Bowe), and offered to fight Ruiz in London 3 months after Grant, but the WBA were stupid.

  • @capablemachine

...Newman made an offer that was bad for anybody, there is no way he would have made the same offer to Evander Holyfield because they actually wanted to fight the smaller man again. You seem to be falling for what Bowe and Newman tried to make everyone think, and publicing dumping the WBC belt in the bin was a publicity stunt to attempt to de-value the famous green belt and make Lewis look bad. - Continued...

  • @opera123able I'm not wrong I'm simply stating the facts. Newman made an offer that was bad for Lewis? Well that's what negotiations are and when you have leverage you can make them. It wasn't Bowe dumping it in the bin that made any difference at all it was a symbolic gesture because there's a date when it's stripped like it happened to Muhammad Ali and Leon Spinks. You have to realise getting to the date when Lewis would get it by default is probably what they wanted anyway,

  • @capablemachine

You dont know what happened behind closed doors, your just very stubborn and cant admit when your wrong.

Everyone knows Bowe did not want to face Lewis, his manager Rock Newman made a ridiculous offer that was completely unacceptable and he knew that the Lewis camp could never accept it. Frank Maloney said himself that he walked out of the room. Maloney could have been a bit more patient, but before negociations could even start up again, Bowe dumped the WBC belt in the bin!

  • @opera123able Yes I am in fact 100 % correct and that wasn't your point at all. Bowe and Lewis was not a definite non-starter but boxing is a complicated business and managers are in negotiations with multiple people at a time trying to find the best deal. It's not because they refused to fight it was because of combination if legal and financial matters like every single championship bout in boxing.

  • @capablemachine

    - THATS THE POINT I'M MAKING, i.e. Sometimes fighters do get around the process but it's a costly legal affair which they try to avoid because inactivity takes time and money. - So your not 100% correct. Also why did the Lewis and Bowe camps even bother to start negociations if it was a definate non-starter?

Tyson was stripped of the WBC and so was Bowe, because they refused to fight Lewis - simple. - If you dont agree with it then take it up with the WBC, you pillock.

  • @opera123able No actually I am 100 percent correct. This is called the business and politics of boxing but sadly your mind hasn't developed past the quarrels of school boys. Sometimes fighters do get around the process but it's a costly legal affair which they try to avoid because inactivity takes time and money.

  • @capablemachine

Your wrong if you think that the reason Lewis v Tyson didn't happen was anything to do with fight deals and TV networks, thats just fantasy, because lots of Boxers have deals with different networks that they are able to work it out in order to fight the person that the world wants to see them fight.

Chicken Bowe and that fat ugly git Rock Newman actually sat down with Frank Maloney and made a ludicrious offer, which Frank Maloney rejected outright.
