@97channel That Defo happened with Price is right in 1989!!!

@birdy100 It's not entirely clear why the music changed. The strongest suggestion though is that Central lost the master tapes. There's a rumour that whilst in transition from one archive facility to another, they didn't complete the journey.
A similar thing happened to the Bullseye music tapes. And also to the original Central presentation music package. Although, I think they eventually recovered the latter.

was this version of the Blockbusters theme music done on a keyboard?

At long last! Been really wanting to see the Sky One version for years. Thanks for getting this up on here.
After hearing so much about how awful the music was, I'm surprised by the fact that it's actually not that bad. I think I prefer the ITV version, but this one has its own quirky charm.
I see that they hacked of the end part of the titles, where the hexagons would fly over the studio. Presumably because the set which featured was slightly different. ITV's version didn't tackle that issue.

Why did the music change?

I think this clip of the Blockbusters opening titles from when the show went over to Sky after finishing its run on ITV should also be put on TV ark's website in the game show section.

Same excellent opening titles. I hope the ones aren't too different when they relaunch it this year. Nor the theme song.
Two regional providers continued to show this virtually identical version of the original Blockbusters on ITV in their area until it finished in 1995. I don't say this often, but thank goodness I lived in one of them!
