Sam "Lightnin" Hopkins (1912-1982) Goldstar Sessions - Short Haired Woman

For the dry version at wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightnin_Hopkins

Lightnin was my first Blues Album purchase in the early 60s. I got it just because I liked his name. Later I learned that I got lucky. He's one of the most individualistic and influential of all the great blues icons. Although he plays and sings with sincere intensity; is no stranger to hard times, Lightnin never loses his love of life, or his sense of whimsy. I feel his music, deep in my nervous system and now that I'm grown, I know what he was trying to tell me.

Thanks Lightnin

  • Texas blues will live on forever

  • great presentation.. congrats keep it up ..

  • Nice.

  • This HAS to be the inspiration for (5th Ward TX's own) Willie D's Baldhead Hoes....I know it!!!!!

  • I've been learning some Lightnin licks lately and there's some sweet ones in this.

Thanks for putting it up, love his style.

  • It's very good story ,your comment in the early 60s.

  • Hey Snaps---Thank you for posting this tune.

I like what you wrote about Lightnin'---he can really reach out and git ya. His influence has been felt by many. (Johnny Winter, the Vaughan Bros., ...too many to list!)

Back about 1966 I found an early album by him ("The Roots of Lightnin' Hopkins)---it's the real thing---real music to my ears.
