SEATTLE, April 30 -- Inhibition of glutamate receptors may play a role in migraine treatment, researchers here said. Although the investigational glutamate receptor inhibitor ADX10059 performed significantly better than placebo only at a two-hour time point, the findings establish the potential of these compounds in preventive treatment of migraine, said Peter Goadsby, M.D., Ph.D., of the University of California San Francisco. "It wasn't a great effect, but it confirms that glutamate is a legitimate target," Dr. Goadsby said.
