This is a fast and simple cooking video on how to make an Asian dessert called Ang Ku Kueh (in Chinese/Malay) or a simplified version of Mochi. This version is filled with red bean paste and is super fun and yummy! It's similar to Japanese Mochi except that it is not made of pounded rice but rice flour instead. I'd consider it a desert since it's so sweet, but you can also substitute other fillings; sometimes we use crushed peanuts. My Amah (Grandma) is the lead chef and I wanted to record her cooking so that I can one day pass them onto my own children.

*Instead of banana leaves, you can also use tin foil as a substitute!

  • are you a malaysian living in america?

  • where i can find the red bean?

  • You sound like you are of Taiwanese decent perhaps?

  • You should use a mould shaped like a tortoise, otherwise it is not an ang KU kueh. It would at most be called an Ang Kueh, which is what you made.
